On an unseasonably warm day in November, the dancers Rebecca Margolick and Stephanie Crousilat met me on the lower level of Grand Central Station to board a northbound train to New Canaan, Connecticut, the birthplace of the mid-century modern movement in American architectural movement and site of Philip Johnson's Glass House, where we would bring Peter Silberman to record a series of dance and music performance films with the songs of his new album, Impermanence, at the heart.
Un soir de 1972, tard à Bruxelles, Steve Reich atterrit à un très mauvais spectacle de flamenco dans un vieux club. Lui et son groupe passèrent la nuit à se moquer de leur façon de jouer, à grimacer au son du chant, avant d’être assommés par un moment d’épiphanie alors que les danseurs se mettaient à taper ensemble des mains pour une passage de Palmas.
